TWINE 1.4 INTERFACE
In this section we will explore the interface of Twine 1.4.2 from a fresh download and new story perspective.
THE BASICS:
The basic interface of Twine 1.4 is accessed through a stand alone program (see Getting Started for how to download and install) which opens directly to the story pane. This story pane can be observed in the figure below:
Figure: Demonstrating the basic interface of Twine 1.4.2 Twine 1.4.2 stores in-progress stories as .tws files and exports stories to .html files - which means they can be played on any browser, without download or specific programs for operation. Opening up a fresh install of Twine will correspondingly open up an Untitled Story (new story) which will need to be saved (as a .tws file) and built (.html file).
THE STORY INTERFACE:
In the story interface we can see a number of differnet dialogue boxes, options and functions. We will discuss each of these in turn
THE STORY PANE
The story pane is the dark gray panel which takes up the majority of the Twine interface. On this dark grey area we can see three "cards" with some text on them. These cards are called passages - and they hold information about the story and how it should be executed (metadata), special passages (which have particular syntax and functions) as well as the story itself. On a new story (such as the one pictured in the figure above) we can see three passages: Start, StoryTitle and StoryAuthor.
Start: This is a special passage that denotes where the story will start from
